Chapter 2
Dysphoria Embodied

Dysphoria Embodied consists of a series of images which visually represent the feelings of gender dysphoria which can be experienced by people who do not identify as female whilst menstruating. As this bodily function has been so heavily female centred, in terms of representation, within the media; the act of menstruating is most commonly associated with hyper-femininity and is perceived as a key milestone which highlights the start of womanhood.

Often menstruation can be a reminder that a person's body does not correlate with their sense of self and gender identity. These images were designed to show the discomfort, frustration, and feeling somewhat out of sorts each month.  Ultimately a very important aspect of menstruation which is underrepresented within the Menstruation Conversation.
